Vice President, Head of Europe
Mr. Scherenberg is RPX’s first hire in Europe. As RPX’s ambassador in Europe, he represents RPX’s business interests for strategic growth in the European market. He supports RPX’s Business Development, Acquisitions, and Empower teams and serves as a resource for RPX members with respect to the European IP landscape.
Prior to joining RPX, Mr. Scherenberg worked as a General Counsel at Sisvel, a worldwide leading patent pool administrator. In this role, he drafted and negotiated agreements leading to several patent pools and joint licensing programs, including for 3G, 4G and 5G, Wi-Fi, DSL, VP9 and AV1. In parallel, Mr. Scherenberg ran his own law firm SCHERENBERG LEGAL & LICENSING, serving clients in managing intellectual property assets and advising in the fields of generative AI, web3 and media law. He recently merged his firm with VON HAVE FEY, a German IP and media boutique law firm, where he still holds a (passive) Of Counsel position. Earlier in his career, Mr. Scherenberg was an equity partner at German boutique IP firm PREU BOHLIG, focusing on IP licensing, press and media law, reputation management and crisis communication. Mr. Scherenberg started his work as an attorney in 2005 as an Associate in the IP&IT Department of the leading European law firm FRESHFIELDS where he was a patent litigator and transactional IP specialist.
Mr. Scherenberg holds a Doctor of Laws (Dr. iur.) degree from the Technical University of Dresden. He studied law at the universities of Freiburg and Heidelberg in Germany and the university of Aix-en-Provence in France.
