RPX is a leading buyer of patents and patent rights. As of June 30, 2012, we have invested over $490 million to acquire ownership and/or sublicense rights to approximately 2,900 US and international patent assets.

 

We have created a rational alternative to patent litigation to help our clients manage the associated risks and costs in dealing with patent litigation. As an independent and neutral third party, we provide transparent and fast decision-making. Patent owners receive tangible, immediate, and fair value for their assets, rather than taking on the significant risks, costs and uncertainties of litigation.

 

We buy patents from all sources, including large and small corporations, individual inventors, law firms, technology transfer offices, and patent brokers. Many patent owners come to RPX because they are interested in monetizing their portfolios but prefer not to invest the resources and incur the risk associated with patent enforcement and litigation. Although we typically acquire patents outright, we occasionally acquire sublicense rights when complete ownership of the patents is not available. We also acquire patents (or related license rights) that are in the process of being asserted or actively litigated.
