Director, Business Development

Responsibilities

  • Initiating, establishing, and sustaining relationships with senior executives at companies that would benefit from the RPX service.
  • Communicating the mechanics and value of the RPX service.
  • Negotiating complex, high-value agreements.
  • Becoming an expert in the products and services of RPX member and prospect companies.
  • Developing the ability to engage in substantive dialog about patents with RPX members and other intellectual-property-related organizations.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years experience at a major law firm or top-tier investment bank or consulting firm, or comparable experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Disciplined, logical thinker.
  • Confident personality supported by attention to detail and fact-based, documented conclusions and opinions.
  • Compelling record of academic achievement and professional success.

Additional relevant skills and experience:

  • Patent and other intellectual-property-related experience.
  • Advanced degrees in any area.
  • Experience working and living outside of the United States, particularly in Japan, Korea and China.

Patent Analyst

Responsibilities

As a Patent Analyst, you will work closely with RPX technical, legal, and business team members in the process of researching and evaluating new patent acquisitions for the RPX portfolio. You are passionate about, and have a deep understanding of, technology and innovation, and you have strong research skills along with an interest in legal issues concerning patents. You should have deep knowledge (including current and historical knowledge of products, standards, and technical literature) in one or more specific fields of technical innovation. Our interests are broad and include wireless communications, networking, storage, security, payments, consumer electronics, graphics, semiconductors, Internet applications, and enterprise IT and applications software.

This is a full-time position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or related degree preferred, advanced degree a plus.
  • At least 3 years work experience. 
  • In-depth understanding in one or more specific fields of technological innovation, including historical and current knowledge of products, standards, and technical literature. 
  • Excellent research and analysis skills with online services; training or practical experience with a variety of technical classification systems and advanced search techniques is strongly desirable.
  • Superior English written and oral communication skills.
  • Diligent, thorough, and proactive contributor in a fast-paced small team environment.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. for any employer. Sponsorship is not available.

Local candidates only: Candidates must be local to the San Francisco Bay Area. No relocation available.
